Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation will be provided in a guesthouse in a valley near the hunting area. Full-day local meals of high quality are included.
Gear & Equipment
It is essential to bring appropriate, breathable, and waterproof clothing, with layered dressing as the key. High-quality boots with a firm sole and a functional membrane are necessary. A backpack will be useful for carrying extra clothing, personal essentials, and refreshments (enough water, an energy bar, or magnesium/electrolytes). Pack minimally and efficiently, as you will carry everything—including your rifle—all day. We recommend a backpack with an integrated rifle holder and a quick-release system. Since this hunt involves long-range shooting, a rangefinder or high-magnification binoculars will be helpful. A lightweight walking stick for support in mountainous terrain and shooting stability is also a good addition.
Firearms & Ammunition
We recommend hunting with your own rifle, which must be registered in your European Firearms Passport. This document, along with another form of identification, is sufficient for travel and firearm transport. It is advisable to use a caliber with adequate impact energy. However, the most critical aspect is ensuring your rifle is properly sighted for long-range hunting and thoroughly tested at the shooting range before the trip. For observation, lightweight binoculars with high magnification, such as 10x42, are ideal, preferably with an integrated rangefinder.
Weather Conditions
As you know, weather is unpredictable. Each year can be different. During autumn hunts, you must be prepared for all weather conditions. Before departure, we recommend checking the forecast for the specific hunting location and following the principle: “There is no bad weather, only poorly dressed hunters.”
Itinerary
Hunting Carpathian red stags in Romania differs from hunting in neighboring countries due to the challenging topography, extensive forests, and difficult access. In Romania, stags are hunted in three main areas: high and mid-altitude Carpathian mountains, foothills, and lowland plains. Their body size and antler mass are larger than those of stags in Western Europe.
The mountainous region offers untouched wilderness, free from forestry and infrastructure, where it is nearly impossible to encounter the same animal twice. This is where our hunt will take place. Together with your guide, you will explore old rutting grounds, using stag calls to locate your target and approaching it by stalking. On the way, you may encounter bears, wild boars, and occasionally even wolves. The hunt occurs in vast forests and the subalpine belt. Due to the elevation, it may also be possible to hunt Carpathian chamois during the stag rut.
In the mountains, the red deer population is not particularly dense, but the trophy quality is exceptional. The stags stand out with their impressive antler length. Harsh winters and natural predators (bears, wolves, and lynxes) play a key role in natural selection, which is why only mature trophy animals are harvested. Expected trophy weight ranges between 7–9 kg, with the possibility of larger trophies for lucky hunters.
Dates
September 15–20, 2025 - sold out (6 / 5 )
Difficulty
Good physical condition of the hunter. In this case, we will find a little more together. However, if you are looking for a challenge and want to test your physical condition, this is the right type of tour for you. In tours with this level of difficulty, we include mountain hunts and expedition hunts, which is why it also reflects a certain amount of discomfort resulting from the nature of expedition hunts /longer transfers, hunting on horseback or staying in a tent/.
