Hunting Information

You will hunt your alpine chamois in the beautiful environment of the Julian Alps. The hunt is conducted by stalking (in one location, it is also possible to hunt from a high seat) with an early morning ascent to the area where the chamois are found. The warmer the weather/season, the higher you will need to climb. The hunt is physically demanding and requires a certain level of fitness and readiness, both for the ascent and descent, where it is traditional to carry the chamois in a backpack (provided by the guide) for part of the way down to the vehicle. From personal experience, we know this adds a unique and unforgettable experience to the hunt, and we encourage you to try it if you feel up to it. The hunt lasts all day, so it is necessary to pack enough liquids and light snacks in your backpack. Given the nature of mountain hunting and the longer shooting distances (approx. 200 m / 350 m), we recommend practicing such shooting at angles in home conditions. In collaboration with the guide, you will select the game according to your preferences; you decide when to shoot the designated animal, being aware of all the possibilities that may arise. Do not rush the shot, find a stable shooting position, and avoid getting caught up in the excitement of the hunt. After the hunt, you return to your accommodation, and if unsuccessful, the day is repeated. The success rate of the hunt is almost always 100%, depending on your requirements for trophy quality, physical condition, and hunting luck. Weather

Weather depends on the hunting period, but like any mountain hunt at higher altitudes, be prepared for all weather changes. Mountain weather is very variable and similar to that in Slovakia. Before traveling, we recommend checking the weather forecast for the location you are heading to.

 

Accommodation and Food

Accommodation will be arranged based on an agreement with hunters according to their requirements and preferences, with various options and combinations of accommodation and food available. We personally recommend accommodation directly in a small but picturesque village in the heart of the hunting area in a fully equipped apartment with individual dining. Restaurants are available nearby for evening exchanges of hunting experiences.

 

Equipment and Gear

You will need warm and waterproof clothing, with layers being essential, quality shoes with a hard sole and functional membrane. A backpack is also useful, where you can put a change of clothes after the ascent, essential personal items, and snacks (enough water, energy bars, or magnesium). Pack minimally and proportionately, as you will be carrying everything, including your hunting rifle, all day on your back. Given the longer shooting distances, a rangefinder or a spotting scope with greater magnification would be a handy companion.

 

Weapons and Ammunition

We recommend hunting with your own hunting rifle, which is listed in your European firearms permit, which, along with another ID, is sufficient for traveling and transporting the weapon to Slovenia. When hunting chamois, it is often necessary to shoot at longer distances of 200 to 350m, so we recommend using a powerful caliber with a flat ballistic trajectory and sufficient kinetic energy. The most important thing is to have the rifle properly sighted for longer distances. Before the hunt, we recommend visiting a shooting range and practicing long-distance shooting. The rifle should be equipped with a scope with sufficient magnification, at least 12x or more, optimally with a ballistic turret. For observation, light binoculars with high magnification, such as 10x42, are ideal, optimally with an integrated rangefinder. A spotting scope, which the local guide will have, is also very useful.

 

Trophy Export and Import

The chamois trophy can be exported immediately after the hunt, packaged in a raw preparation state based on a handover protocol (which serves as the basis for subsequent accounting upon return home). If you plan a shoulder mount, note that the skin is removed from behind the shoulder blades, and thus, the devalued meat must be purchased.
