Hunting Information
Hunting the Japanese sika deer is a truly unique experience, as this species is not native to the region but was introduced by our ancestors. The most spectacular time for the hunt is during the rut in October, when mature stags establish their territories and attract hinds with their characteristic high-pitched calls. These calls are specific to the sika rut and help experienced guides determine whether a stag is young or mature and if it's worth pursuing. Hunts take place in the morning and afternoon, each lasting about 3 hours. The hunting method is mostly spot-and-stalk (still hunting), occasionally combined with stand hunting, depending on the situation and the hunter’s physical condition. Guides often use special whistles to lure stags out of dense vegetation. The rutting season of the sika deer is an extraordinary adventure that every passionate hunter should experience at least once.
Travel Details
The most convenient way to reach the Karlovy Vary region is by car. The accommodation is located in the village of Radošov, right in the heart of the hunting grounds. Hunters are picked up directly from the hotel by their guides, and the hunt begins within minutes. There is also an option to fly directly to Karlovy Vary, although only a few airlines operate this route.
Weather
The weather during the hunt is usually pleasant, as it is early October and daytime temperatures range between 10–12 °C. However, autumn rain is to be expected, so it's important to bring a waterproof jacket and rubber boots.
Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation is provided in a basic hunting lodge situated within the hunting area. It is a simple but clean hotel with a good restaurant and a strong hunting atmosphere, as it is popular among local hunters. Every room is equipped with its own bathroom and toilet. Hunters typically spend much of their time in the hotel restaurant, which is decorated in a traditional hunting style and features a cozy fireplace. Guests can enjoy traditional Czech meals, game specialties, and quality Czech beer.
